Adolescent Boys Stranded On Island, Rescued But At What Cost

A multitude of young boys have just been stranded on and Island with no adults in sight. They organize themselves the best way their boyish minds can think of. They hunt to survive and their primal instincts start to show. Their sanity is pushed to the limits and soon their whole futile society of boys crumbles. Chaos and insanity soon rains down upon them until its every boy for himself. A helicopter then discovers them only to see the carnage of a once beautiful Island and the few last threads of a few boys sanity.

Exclusive Interview with William Golding

Interviewer: So Mr. Golding what was your inspiration for this book?

Golding: Well in 1935 I became a teacher just like my father. I taught English and Philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury. Teaching many unruly boys served as inspiration.

Interviewer: From our sources, Mr.Golding, we know that you served in World war II. How do you think your experiences and the things you saw integrated into your work?

Golding: “I began to see what people were capable of doing. Anyone who moved through those years without understanding that man produces evil as a bee produces honey, must have been blind or wrong in the head.” My experiences opened my eyes to the evil that man was capable of and I thought that my personal revelations would make into an interesting story.

Interviewer: What are your thoughts on being a Nobel Prize winning author and using literature as a way of expressing ones self?

Golding: I believe that my writing is different than others. I believe that literature should leave the audience with something that could only be taken from that authors experiences and life. I am not a theologian or a philosopher. I am a storyteller.

“Lord Of The Flies” should be read by college students

Lord of the Flies talks about very uncomfortable and intense subjects but for students to get a well rounded view on life, then they they should read this book. This book shows what its like to lose your sanity and how far people are willing to go to survive. Students can better relate to these younger characters and how they believe that they know better than either their parents, society or anyone in a position of authority which can show them that having mindset like that is stupid and inevitably futile. According to William Golding himself, “The moral is that the shape of a society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectable.” This moral is essential for everyone to learn. According to Quora.com, “The harsh and incredulous metamorphosis that replaces kindness and altruism with vengeance and cunning bears evidence to the consequences that emanate from an enjoyment of uncontrolled power.” This book is vital if we are to teach students about human nature and about how power and civilization affect our society.

Dear Public,

“Lord of the Flies” is a very inappropriate book and should not be read by college students. This book is very violent and uses inappropriate language. This book goes into detail of multiple murdering’s and the fall of multiple boys into insanity. “Lord of the Flies” is just a tale of young boys driving themselves to insanity which is unnecessary and not something that we want to tell students about. The characters are all young which makes for a very limited and plain dialogue. Please do not let your student read this book.

Dear Editor,

I really don’t appreciate you killing me off by being smashed by a boulder! You made me leave Ralph all alone to fend for himself which you know he is not capable of. He needed me to help him! My glasses also got completely smashed which left Ralph with no way to start fire on his own. I really miss my aunt. I also really miss her delicious candies. The boys got rescued by the pilot and got off the island and I didn’t get to go with them! In conclusion, I am very unhappy with being killed off alongside Simon.

Theme of “Lord of the Flies”

The theme of “Lord of the Flies” is the conflict between the human impulse toward savagery and how rules and society are there to minimize that impulse. It makes us look closely at the methods and ideologies society use to fight our basic human instincts and whether or not we’re effective in our attempt. When asked what the theme of his book was, William Golding said this, “an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature.” He uses a story about adolescent boys to try and get across a deeper meaning of human nature and civilized society. “You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close,close,close! I’m the reason why it’s no go? Why things are what they are”. (Golding 143) In this quote, the “Lord of the Flies” is talking to Simon in his illusion. Simon represents humans and and the “Lord of the Flies” represents our primal nature. We know that we can’t live without civilization yet our primal nature makes us act otherwise. “Maybe there is a beast… maybe it’s only us.” (Golding 89) Possibly one of the most famous quotes in this book is said by Simon, a character who represents a deeper understanding of life and human nature. This quote goes back to the defects of human nature just as William Golding said. Its trying to make us aware of the reason we resort to savagery comes from within us. Golding intended for this sentence to make us more aware of ourselves and our human nature so that we may indeed learn the reason and root for our primal behavior so that we may find ways to effectively combat it.

Ralph: Simon was a kind boy that I believe knew more than any of us. He was always helping with the littluns and actually helped out building shelters. I knew he secretly had a deeper understanding of life than the rest of us but that is what made others weary of him. Simon was a one of a kind that I don not believe deserved to die.

Ralph v.s Jack

As Ralph and Piggy are sound asleep in their shelter, Jack and his savages attack them and steal Piggy’s specs to make fire. Round one goes to Jack! The next day Ralph goes sneaking with Piggy to Jack’s base to find the twins there. Samneric give Ralph some meat for survival even though Jack told them to not help Ralph. Round two goes to Ralph!. Then Ralph and Piggy are together near Jacks fort and are discovered by Roger who then proceeds to push a boulder toward Piggy causing him to fall off a cliff and die. Round three goes to Jack! Ralph then runs away from Jack and his savages and evades being captured and killed. Round four goes to Jack! A helicopter soon arrives only to see an island of boys driven to the limits of their own sanity. The Final round goes to………….
